Profile: Pam Piro, Board Member
Board Member
Having graduated from college with a degree in international relations with a focus in international marketing, board member Pam Piro had the opportunity to travel anywhere in the world to launch her career in business. For many years Pam lived overseas, exploring new cultures and became a leader in her industry. But when it came time to settle down, she opted to return to the United States and live in Maryland. Now, she lives in West Friendship in Howard County with her husband.
Pam is the Chief Commanding Officer of DRB Unitech, an electronic company which is known to be the nation’s leading car wash technology powerhouse. Here, she heads sales and marketing efforts. She is also a member of various industry boards, the Oncology Foundation of MD and DC, and the Stevenson University Board of Advisors for their business school.
When she entered the business world, there were few women who spearheaded the movements in their fields. Belabored with the task of having to make her presence known in various male-dominated workplaces, Pam always made sure that she wasn’t simply trying to be one of the men. Instead, she worked hard to gain their trust and establish a level of comfort with them. Today, she is happy to see that there are opportunities for women to be leaders in their industries, and is always looking for ways to create more.
This cultivation of new leaders is an idea that Pam admires in the way that No More Stolen Childhood operates. Over the course of her two years of being on the board, she has witnessed Wayne’s journey as he transitions into a different role within the organization and has let others step up to the plate and lead. Pam believes wholeheartedly in this leap that NMSC took and sees it as a way to fill the board with as many different voices as possible.
Pam also sees a strong leader in NMSC’s Executive Director Vanessa Milio, who joined the team in October of 2017. Pam sees that with Vanessa’s discipline and experience, NMSC will be able to be clearer in its purpose and become more engaged with the population it is trying to reach. Vanessa’s strengths coupled with the board’s commitment to making a difference and personal investment in the cause feel like the key elements to moving No More Stolen Childhoods forward.
Though her love for business has taken her many places, Pam knows that her heart belongs with the people she loves and the causes that she believes in. In an alternate universe she would spend her days in the Rocky Mountains and become a counselor, satisfying both her love for the Canadian outdoors and working with people and offer them comfort and healing.
