Conversation Pathways Technical Assistance & Implementation Support

Practical Guidance. Compassionate Partnership. Real Impact.

Conversation Pathways is the technical assistance and implementation arm of Change the Conversation. It supports organizations, schools, and agencies in strengthening how they prevent and respond to child sexual abuse and build internal capacity over time.

The model is organized around three connected pathways – prevention, response, and capacity-building – and offers flexible support that meets organizations where they are. Through practical guidance and collaborative partnership, Conversation Pathways helps teams turn knowledge into practice in ways that are trauma-informed, realistic, and sustainable.

Three Pathways of Support

Prevention Pathway

The Prevention Pathway supports organizations in strengthening systems, environments, and everyday practices that help reduce risk and promote safety before harm occurs. Work in this pathway may include:

  • Reviewing and strengthening prevention-informed policies, procedures, and protocols
  • Clarifying roles, boundaries, and expectations for staff and volunteers
  • Integrating prevention into staff development and organizational culture
  • Supporting healthy communication, relationships, and digital safety
  • Creating environments that prioritize safety, connection, and wellbeing

Response Pathway

The Response Pathway supports organizations when abuse is suspected or disclosed, or when teams are navigating how to respond. The focus is on helping organizations respond in ways that are coordinated, compassionate, trauma-informed, and grounded in best practice. Work in this pathway may include:

  • Clarifying response protocols and decision-making processes
  • Supporting internal and external communication following a concern or disclosure
  • Strengthening coordination across teams, systems, or community partners
  • Supporting staff wellbeing and addressing secondary trauma
  • Promoting continuity of care and survivor-centered practices

Capacity-Building Pathway

The Capacity-Building Pathway supports organizations in building internal knowledge, skills, and training infrastructure related to prevention and response.

This pathway may:

  • Stand alone as a primary entry point, or
  • Be integrated into prevention or response work

Work in this pathway may include:

  • Train-the-trainer models for internal staff
  • Development or adaptation of training curricula
  • Ongoing support to strengthen consistency and quality over time

Ways to Engage

Focused Support

Some organizations come with a specific question, need, or moment they are navigating.

Focused support offers time-limited engagement – typically one to five months – centered around a defined prevention, response, or capacity-building need.

Examples may include:

  • A single training or facilitated session
  • Consultation on a policy, protocol, or emerging situation
  • Short-term support navigating a complex or sensitive situation (e.g., support for staff, guidance on communication, and help determining next steps)
  • A short series of structured technical assistance conversations

Ongoing Technical Assistance Partnership

Other organizations choose to work together over time – typically six months or longer – to support reflection, implementation, and continuous learning.

Ongoing partnerships may include:

  • Continued consultation and coaching
  • Scheduled trainings or refreshers aligned with organizational priorities
  • Support during transitions, challenges, or complex situations
  • Thought partnership to strengthen prevention and response practices over time
